Understanding the Costs of a Wedding

There are a lot of hidden costs that can take place at a wedding.  When you want to make sure you have it all (and your cake!), there are some guidelines that can help you tremendously.

No matter what your budget really is, there are ways to make cuts in some areas so that you have other things that you want.

Almost 50% of your budget goes into the reception, which includes the site fee, the food and liquor (or at least a champagne toast).  The other 50% should be broken down something along these lines:

Attire (Dress, Tuxedo) – 8-10%

Photographer/Videographer – 10-15%

Entertainment/Music – 8-10%

Flowers 8-10%

These are the majority of your costs.  Everything else, such as the favors, the transportation and any other additions you want to make are going to be about 2-3% each.

At the end of the day, photography is of the utmost importance because no one is going to remember the flowers or the food you served or what kind of music was playing when you took your first kiss on the dance floor as husband and wife.  The photographs are the only memory that you will have and that is absolutely critical.
